About the artist

Sir Grayson Perry (born 1960) is an English artist known for his work across various media, including ceramics, printmaking, tapestry, and performance. He studied at Portsmouth Polytechnic and became involved with the Neo Naturists in the early 1980s, an art group known for its avant-garde performances and body painting. Perry's practice often incorporates autobiographical elements, including his female alter ego, Claire, and his childhood teddy bear, Alan Measles. Perry's work frequently addresses themes of identity, gender, class, taste, and religion within contemporary British society. He gained recognition for challenging the traditional hierarchy of art forms, particularly through his use of ceramics, a medium often historically overlooked. In 2003, he was awarded the Turner Prize, marking the first time the prestigious award was given to a ceramic artist. His works are collected by major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Tate.
