About the artwork

This work by artist Bryce Delplanque features a stylized cat adorned with vibrant, decorative colors. We find again the emblematic language of Bryce Delplanque, who likes to interweave references in his creations, resulting in composite and diverted objects. Here, the artist plays on the symbolism of the cat across cultures. Through his singular visual language, he hijacks traditional ceramics by adding a host of details. With a certain horror of emptiness, the decoration of the cat's coat includes ornamental motifs and plants from Japanese culture, as the title of the work in Japanese also indicates.
