About the artwork

Produced in 2011, Tache is part of a key period in Ella & Pitr's work, where their narrative universe meets a freer, more gestural pictorial language. At the center of the composition, a swirling black mass seems to have exploded onto the surface of the canvas. The circular, almost atomic lines evoke both a spontaneous gesture and an expanding form of energy. Ink drips accentuate this impression of movement and controlled accident. In radical contrast to this monumental "stain", a small child figure, discreetly installed in the lower right-hand corner, holds a can of paint. This tiny figure, set against the immensity of the gesture, creates a poetic tension characteristic of the duo. Scale becomes narrative - fragility in the face of chaos, innocence in the face of abstraction. This work perfectly expresses Ella & Pitr's duality, a balance between monumentality and delicacy, humor and gravity, apparent spontaneity and thoughtful composition.

About the artist

Ella & Pitr are a duo of French urban artists from Saint-Étienne, formed in 2007 after meeting while pasting drawings on the street. They quickly developed a singular universe populated by sleeping, dreaming or reclining characters, often depicted on monumental scales. Their work is distinguished by spectacular in situ interventions, notably on building rooftops, visible from the sky. These giant figures, fragile and poetic, seem suspended between dream and reality, in direct dialogue with architecture and the urban landscape. Through drawing, mural painting and collage, Ella & Pitr explore themes linked to childhood, the passage of time, vulnerability and the collective imagination. Their practice oscillates between the spontaneity of street art and the formal mastery of compositions designed for space. The duo has created monumental works in numerous cities in France and abroad, establishing themselves as one of the leading tandems on the contemporary muralism scene.
