About the artwork
Spray It Loud, created by Jef Aérosol in 2007, is a 100-copy silkscreen print on 300g recycled paper. True to his aesthetic, the artist uses a visual language derived from stenciling, with a reduced palette dominated by black and gray, punctuated by touches of red. The composition depicts a figure holding a spray can, a direct symbol of the act of creation in urban space. The text at the top and bottom of the image reinforces the militant dimension of the work, evoking both the heritage of political and cultural slogans and the subversive power of the artistic gesture. The graphic treatment, both raw and precise, gives the whole an immediate legibility, while preserving a certain ambiguity in the character's identity, reinforcing its universal character.
Expert opinion
This work is fully in keeping with the committed approach of Jef Aérosol, a major figure in French street art. It illustrates his interest in music, protest and freedom of expression, recurring themes in his work. The hijacking of the slogan and the use of the spray can as a central tool underline a reflection on the role of the artist in the public space, between creation and protest. Jef Aérosol's silkscreens, particularly those featuring his iconic images, are appreciated for their ability to translate the energy of street art into a collector's format. Spray It Loud stands out for its visual impact and direct message, making it an accessible yet conceptually powerful work, representative of his world and his artistic commitment.
