About the artwork
On graph paper with childhood memories, the artist composes a collage of fragments: torn and scribbled photographs and images, notes whose ink is fading, as if it had taken on water. A date and the title of the work, "Pour un nouveau et plus long voyage", seem to float among these scattered traces. This graphic exploration plunges us into the territory of the Aisne, evoked in particular by the mysterious density of its forests. In an instinctive aesthetic, the artist juxtaposes these elements to create a fragile balance and recompose a story.
Expert opinion
With its raw aesthetic, this collage is a fine, poetic graphic exploration of the Aisne region, a true "ordering of disorder" as art critic Diane Der Markarian puts it.
About the artist
Gabriel Folli is a French contemporary artist born in 1990. He lives and works in Dijon (France).
In his multimedia work, in which drawing plays a central role, Gabriel Folli aims to give back to images the power they seem to have lost over time. His approach draws on literary, cinematographic, historical and philosophical references, reflecting a personal and intuitive reading of the environment. By blending image and textual narrative, he strikes a delicate balance between reality and fiction, where the art of the fragment becomes central to his approach.
Winner of the 2023 saison du Dessin Nord / Sud as part of the 10th edition of PAREIDOLIE, Gabriel Folli has also exhibited at the Frac Grand Large and the Frac Picardie. His work has been presented by the La Ferronnerie and Sator galleries.
“I collect, inventory, assemble, construct and deconstruct forms, play with formats. From transposed images to collage experiments, I contemplate a harmony bordering on chaos.”
