About the artwork
This work features a close-up of an old man's face, whose glasses seem about to slip off. The realistic treatment of this portrait is tempered by small touches of vibrant color. This canvas stands out for its flamboyant use of color as much as for its choice of subject, since the elderly are rarely represented in contemporary art. Virut Panchabuse makes them the protagonists of his portraits, highlighting their humanity and complexity.
