About the artwork
In his own deliberately simplified style, Mike Lee sets three two-tone figures in what appears to be a race against time. This little family, in its mad escape, is accompanied by features reminiscent of cartoons or comic strips, from which the artist is accustomed to drawing his inspiration. The theme of family is a leitmotif in Mike Lee's work, which he explores regularly.
Expert opinion
This work perfectly reflects the artist's early work, with its round, codified figures. However, Mike Lee broke away from this visual identity in 2020, marking a real turning point in his production.
About the artist
American artist born in 1983. Graduate of the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. By proposing works with simplified silhouettes and devoid of color, he seeks to make them truly universally accessible. His work has been shown across the globe, including at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, the Honolulu Museum of Art in Honolulu and the Vincent Price Art Museum in Los Angeles.
