About the artwork

Morons (White) is one of Banksy’s most iconic satirical works, depicting a packed auction room where an auctioneer gestures toward a framed artwork bearing the provocative text: “I can’t believe you morons actually buy this shit.” Rendered in stark black-and-white screenprint with Banksy’s signature sharp wit, the piece exposes the absurdity and excesses of the contemporary art market. This edition, printed on Arches wove paper and issued by Pictures On Walls, features the classic P.O.W. blindstamp and captures Banksy’s characteristic blend of political commentary, humor, and cultural critique. Known for its razor-sharp irony, Morons remains one of the most recognized and discussed works in Banksy’s oeuvre.

Expert opinion

Morons (White) holds a central place in Banksy’s print market due to its direct critique of the art world—ironically becoming one of the most collected and sought-after works in his catalogue. The piece appeals strongly to both seasoned collectors and new buyers because it encapsulates Banksy’s trademark combination of bold imagery, biting satire, and cultural relevance. Unsigned editions published by P.O.W. maintain strong market demand, especially those in good condition with clear embossing and original paper quality. Auction results over the past decade show consistent upward valuation for Morons, driven by Banksy’s global recognition and the rarity of early P.O.W. prints entering the market. Its iconic status, historical importance within Banksy’s body of work, and ongoing relevance to debates over the art market contribute significantly to its investment appeal.

About the artist

One of the most recognized anonymous figures in urban art, Banksy is an English artist supposedly born in 1974. Since the 1990s, he has been making a name for himself with his provocative works, introducing the codes of the urban scene to the general public. His most acclaimed works are charged with a strong political message, denouncing both consumer society and political abuse. In 2018, Banksy made art market history with the self-destruction of Girl with Balloon, seconds after the hammer was struck, resulting in a new work entitled Love is in the bin. He is the second best-selling contemporary artist at auction, and his works are included in prestigious museum collections such as MoMA, Tate Britain and the Louvre.
