About the artwork
Miroir enchanté is a mixed-media work by JM Robert, painted on mirror and framed in a deliberately worn Baroque frame. The female face emerges from black drips, fluorescent spurts and bursts of urban materials, in a tension between figuration and erasure. The mirror support, far from being anecdotal, plays a central role: the viewer's reflection becomes part of the work, inviting him to confront his own gaze with that of the portrait. The classic frame, deliberately soiled and splintered, reinforces the contrast between past and present, beauty and decay, memory and disappearance. JM Robert expresses all the poetic brutality of his visual language, in an interweaving of layers, graffiti and transparencies.
Expert opinion
This portrait on mirror combines plastic intensity and symbolic depth, revealing all JM Robert's expressive power between reflection, memory and disappearance.
About the artist
Born in 1979 in Mâcon, JM Robert is a French visual artist trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne. His work explores urban memory, walls steeped in history, forgotten faces and traces of time. Blending academic painting, street art and reclaimed materials, he creates hybrid works where past and present collide. His gestures are both brutal and masterful, and his works are marked by a constant tension between destruction and creation. He exhibits regularly in France, Europe and the United States, and his work appeals to a public sensitive to the raw poetry of contemporary urban art.
