About the artwork

Micky and Minnie (2016) is a unique work in keeping with Mr Brainwash's urban pop aesthetic. On large-format paper, the artist depicts Mickey and Minnie embracing each other, universal figures of love and innocence, hijacked here in a contemporary visual language. The background, composed of collages, paint drips and graphic layers, creates a tension between the smooth, recognizable image of the characters and a chaotic, almost saturated environment. The central pink heart acts as an emotional anchor, while the splashes and gestural traces recall the raw energy of street art. This mixed technique lends the whole a joyful yet critical vibrancy, somewhere between popular icon and expressive pictorial work.

Expert opinion

This work clearly illustrates Mr Brainwash's ability to transform popular culture icons into singular, desirable art objects. The uniqueness of the piece, its generous format and the use of mixed media on paper reinforce its artistic value and its rarity on the market. The artist deliberately plays on the boundary between art and mass culture, questioning reproduction, appropriation and the notion of originality. Accompanied by its certificate of authenticity (COA), Micky and Minnie stands out as an emblematic work, both visually accessible and significant in the understanding of Mr Brainwash's work.

About the artist

Mr. Brainwash, real name Thierry Guetta, is a contemporary artist who skilfully juggles street and pop art. Using his innovative style, he creates larger-than-life exhibitions, and doesn't hesitate to navigate between the different spheres of art, notably designing album covers for Madonna, Rick Ross and KYGO, or appearing in numerous films and TV shows. By appearing in one of the first documentaries to trace the history of street art, Exit Through the Gift Shop, he established himself alongside Banksy as one of the major artists in this discipline. Through his work, Mr. Brainwash aims to democratize art, opening it up to a diverse audience.
