About the artwork
A colorful urban landscape, this work presents a view of downtown Mexico City. The artist doesn't hesitate to include captions in his composition, in order to situate it precisely within the city. This allows us to situate the landscape around the Plaza de la Constitución, the Spanish word zocalo referring to the city's main squares, along the Promenade de la Reforme and Avenida Juarez. Although Corinne Dalle Ore paints stylized, naïve and free forms, this does not prevent her from inscribing her work in a geographical reality. Superimposed on these forms are various collages of portraits and brand logos that cover the buildings like giant advertising posters, seeming to evoke, not without humor, the denaturing of city centers by an invasive consumer society. In this way, the artist chooses a free, light-hearted expressiveness to support a strong geopolitical commentary on Mexico, a recurring theme in his work.
Expert opinion
This work is characteristic of Corinne Dalle Ore's colorful universe. Her neo-expressionist inspiration combines with images from popular culture to reconcile the pictorial lightness of her work with a political message.
About the artist
Born in 1969 in St-Tropez, Corinne Dalle Ore is an artist who lives and works in Paris. Passionate about painting since the age of 14, she studied art between Paris and the United States. She worked in the world of music before devoting herself to her artistic practice. Her work is inspired by major art figures such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Twombly, as well as the aesthetics of the 1950s and 60s. The artist offers us a universe rich in color, in which collage is superimposed on painting in a style reminiscent of old advertising posters and neo-expressionist works. Playing on popular imagery, Corinne Dalle Ore transforms stereotypes in work that is sometimes humorous, sometimes provocative and always poetic. As early as 1988, she presented her work at the Salon d'Art et d'Essai in St-Tropez, before being included in auctions at the Hôtel Drouot in the "Young Contemporary Artists" category. Today, she exhibits in numerous European and New York galleries.
