About the artwork
This work, at once raw in its sculptural aspect and light in its choice of colors, is a true testament to Kathryn Macnaughton's style. Indeed, although it uses acrylics, it is visually close to paper cut-outs or digital collages, an effect accentuated by the wide range of colors and textured details represented.
Expert opinion
This work is representative of Kathryn Macnaughton's work, whose meticulous pastel aesthetic is reminiscent of Pop Art and Art Deco.
About the artist
Canadian artist born in 1985. Lives and works in Lisbon (Portugal). Graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. In her work, Kathryn Macnaughton blends figurative painting, abstract expressionism, geometric abstraction and still life, giving her pieces a theatrical effect. Formerly a graphic artist, the digital touch plays a major role in her art, resulting in a combination of pictorial and digital touches. Recognized across the Atlantic, her work has been exhibited at Toronto's Gardiner Museum.
“I wanted my digital work to look raw and handmade. Now that I'm creating "physical" paintings, I want to give the illusion that the work is digital.”
