About the artwork

Blending a plastically realistic representation with surrealist elements, this work features a complex two-tone composition. To the left and in the background, a pack of wolves appears to be stalking their prey; in the center, a monkey sits on some garbage, smoking and holding a white flag on its shoulder; while to the right and in the foreground, three disproportionately large mice circle around the rubbish. Like the artist's other works, this one is characterized by the personification of animals. Leonardo Ericailcane creates visual fables, integrating social and ecological messages into his work. This landfill, on which the animals are clustered, suggests the environmental repercussions of our consumption and the imminent dangers, symbolized by the wolves.

Expert opinion

Like the rest of the artist's work, this visual fable conveys a powerful message.

About the artist

Leonardo Ericailcane, an Italian artist from Belluno, is an urban artist, illustrator, draughtsman and sculptor. A graduate of his hometown's School of Fine Arts, Leonardo began by exploring the world of graffiti. His monumental works evoke a childlike imagination while projecting it into resolutely adult issues. His work is distinguished by its realistic precision, illustrating disturbing animals transformed by human behavior in contexts often charged with social or ecological significance. As an urban artist, he takes to the walls, for projects such as "Breaking the Wall" in Poland, or to exhibit his work in galleries around the world, as in France, in La Rochelle and Niort for the "Hors les Murs" exhibition at Le Belvédère gallery during the annual urban art festival.
