About the artwork
This canvas features abstract blue shapes on a yellow background, reminiscent of comic book details. This work actually belongs to Mambo's "Mindscapes" series, whose starting point is the memory of delirious dreams he had as a child, when he had a fever. He saw himself in colorful, undulating landscapes, which he recreated in a minimalist, expressive form. Over time, he added memories of places that had left their mark on him, in the deserts of Arizona and on the Californian coast, as well as a few feminine curves that blended into the landscapes.
Expert opinion
This work is typical of Mambo's work, who, in his quest for visual and emotional balance, works with perspective and depth on canvas.
About the artist
Born in Chile in 1969, Flavien Demarigny aka Mambo grew up in Latin America before moving to Paris, Los Angeles and Provence, where he now lives and works. He began his career in street art, joining several French collectives before establishing himself on the international scene. His style is characterized by a mix of organic lines, bright colors and graphic motifs inspired by both popular culture and contemporary art. The link between all Flavien "Mambo" Demarigny's creations is the quest for impact and balance, both visually and emotionally. Along the way, Mambo has developed three main abstract series: Brainology, Mindscapes and the Strokes. His first solo show was in Chicago in 1999. This was followed by exhibitions in Paris, notably at Magda Danysz and Agnès B, but also in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Geneva and Barcelona, during which Mambo honed his style and language.
