About the artwork

This sculpture depicts a proud, static greyhound, its head raised to the sky, almost on alert. With its lanky form, the animal is slender and light. Like Alberto Giacometti, Sylvie Mangaud refines the greyhound's body, giving it a timeless elegance and grace. The artist demonstrates her ability to perceive the subtleties of the animal's body, capturing its allure with precision. Illustrating Sylvie Mangaud's vision of sculpting human and animal figures with deep sensitivity and a concern for capturing the essence of their beings, this work embodies the fusion between the animal's poise and the sculptor's artistic approach.

Expert opinion

With its light, skeletal treatment, this work is in keeping with the aesthetic of artist Sylvie Mangaud.

About the artist

Born in 1961, Sylvie Mangaud is a French artist. After studying graphology and morphology, she began with photography before capturing movement through sculpture. Her work focuses on the bodies of human and animal figures. With a fragile aesthetic, her bronzes feature thin, light, almost skeletal lines. This stretching of bodies is characterized by a deliberate disproportion, bringing her work closer to that of Alberto Giacometti. Renowned in France for her sculptures, Sylvie Mangaud exhibited her work at the Grand Palais during Art Paris in the early 2010s, and at the Tuileries during Paris Art Design in 2019.
