About the artwork

Kundalini_Loop Pink, created in 2021 by Jason Revok, is an acrylic and synthetic polymer painting on canvas measuring 182.9 × 152.4 cm. The work is characterized by a rigorous geometric composition built around a system of repeating lines forming a concentric structure. On a bright pink background, turquoise lines unfold in a series of successive frames that seem to recede towards an empty central space. These slightly irregular, vibrant lines give the impression of a repetitive, almost mechanical hand-drawing that gradually builds visual depth. The repetition of the motifs creates an optical effect reminiscent of kinetic art and geometric abstraction. The center of the canvas remains deliberately open, forming a calm zone that contrasts with the graphic density of the borders. This organization creates a tension between the central void and the dynamic structure that surrounds it. The viewer's gaze is guided inwards, as if drawn into a spiral or pulsating movement. The chromatic palette also plays an essential role. The contrast between the saturated pink of the background and the luminous turquoise blue reinforces the visual energy of the work and accentuates the effect of optical vibration.

Expert opinion

In Kundalini_Loop Pink, Jason Revok continues his exploration of an abstract language based on repetition, structure and gesture. The artist, who emerged from the American graffiti scene, has gradually developed a pictorial practice that transforms the energy of urban gesture into rigorous visual systems. Here, the repetitive motif functions as a form of visual protocol. The lines seem to follow an almost algorithmic logic, while retaining the irregularities inherent in the human gesture. This tension between structure and imperfection gives the work a mechanical yet organic dimension. The title refers to the notion of kundalini, a spiritual concept associated with energy circulating in the body according to certain Eastern philosophical traditions. This idea of energy in motion is directly echoed in the visual dynamics of the composition, where the lines seem to vibrate and unfold from the center. The work is part of a trend in contemporary abstraction that combines the heritage of Minimalism, influences from optical art and the energy of urban practices. With its monumental scale and immediate visual impact, Kundalini_Loop Pink illustrates Revok's ability to create paintings that are both conceptual and powerfully immersive.

About the artist

Born in 1977 in Riverside, California, Jason Revok lives and works in Detroit, Michigan. Self-taught, he began his artistic practice in the world of graffiti, before devoting himself to a studio practice, exploring and evolving both his creative processes and artistic concepts. Although he has retained certain emblematic elements of graffiti in his contemporary work, such as modest materials and his name, his studio work has enabled him to create large-scale tools to assist him in creation and in his reinterpretation of minimalist art, which established precise patterns that removed the subjectivity of the hand. Jason Revok's work has been exhibited in museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Pasadena Museum of California Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit. His work has also been shown in international galleries, including the Martin Asbæk Gallery in Copenhagen in 2020 and the Saatchi Gallery in London in 2023.
