About the artwork

This sculpture depicts a deconstructed version of a well-known animated character, rendered in monochromatic white resin. The figure appears to be in a state of transformation or erosion, with parts of its body seeming to melt or solidify into an amorphous mass. The surface texture is smooth and matte, characteristic of the material used, which reinforces the impression of an ancient artifact or a futuristic relic. The composition emphasizes the character’s iconic silhouette while simultaneously distorting its familiar features. The work plays with notions of memory and the enduring presence of cultural symbols, even when they are subject to physical alteration. The absence of color highlights the sculptural qualities, focusing the viewer’s attention on form, volume, and the interplay of light and shadow on its surface. The piece is part of a series that reinterprets icons of popular culture through Arsham’s signature aesthetic of “fictional archaeology.” By presenting contemporary figures as if they were artifacts unearthed from a distant future, the work invites contemplation on the transience of culture and the ability of objects to transcend their original context and function.
