About the artwork

This work from the Gucci SS16 series perfectly illustrates Fafi's ability to fuse the world of fashion with the graphic language of street art. The female figure, emblematic of Fafi's visual vocabulary, is represented here with a masked face in intense blue, contrasting with pinkish hair and vibrant decorative elements such as floral earrings and a central necklace. The treatment of the body, partially suggested, blends gestural lines, textile motifs and superimposed colors, evoking both the stylization of illustration and a certain fragmented sensuality. The influence of the Gucci aesthetic is felt in the interplay of patterns, textures and references to finery, while the uncluttered background focuses all attention on the figure. The whole oscillates between elegance, irreverence and cultural hybridization, a signature characteristic of the artist's work.

Expert opinion

This limited edition of 80 pieces comes at a time when Fafi is in direct dialogue with the world of fashion, reinforcing the transversal dimension of his practice between contemporary art, illustration and global visual culture. The interest of this work lies in its ability to capture an immediately identifiable imaginary while incorporating references to prestigious collaborations and influences such as Gucci. The limited print run, combined with the artist's international recognition and the growing appeal of the crossover between art and fashion, makes this a relevant piece for collectors. Thanks to its format, legibility and strong identity, this work has good potential on the secondary market, while remaining accessible and emblematic of Fafi's universe.

About the artist

Born in 1976, Fabienne Saincry aka Fafi is a French urban artist who lives and works between Paris and Biarritz. Beginning her career with graffiti in her native Toulouse, she went on to paint a fictional universe, which she calls "The Carmine Vault", composed of female characters, the "Fafinettes". Her work is recognized worldwide, as evidenced by her numerous collaborations with Adidas, Sony and Chanel, her press articles and illustrations for Vogue and Elle, and her international exhibitions ranging from the Palais de Tokyo in Paris to the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. In 2023, she will be traveling between Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles and Hawaii to present her "Portraits Happenings" project, in which she draws her lovers in fafinette. She is also working on her second graphic novel, following the 2012 release of "The Carmine Vault" published by Rizzoli Books and Alternatives.
