About the artwork
Gods and Beasts is a photograph from a series in which Remy Chapeaublanc portrays men and animals in harsh light against a black background. His stripped-down style magnifies each subject, giving the portraits a monumentality akin to ancient sculpture.
Expert opinion
Chapeaublanc reveals the raw majesty of his subjects through relentless light and frontal composition. His art imposes a respectful silence, magnifying both human dignity and animal power.
About the artist
Born in Paris in 1980, Remy Chapeaublanc lives between France and Asia. A self-taught photographer, he has made a name for himself with his frontal-light portraits, notably in the Gods and Beasts series shot in Mongolia. His work questions identity and sacredness, and has been exhibited at Paris Photo, Fotofever and institutions such as the Maison Européenne de la Photographie. He combines a rigorous technical approach with a spiritual quest, where each portrait becomes an archetype.
