About the artwork

Produced in 2009 by photographer Idan Wizen, F06 - Un Anonyme Nu Dans Le Salon / Genèse is a 30 x 20 cm silver print on matte paper, produced in an edition of eight and numbered 3/8. This photograph is part of the Genèse series, the first collection in the artistic project Un Anonyme Nu Dans Le Salon initiated by the artist in 2009. The image depicts an anonymous naked person, seated in a simple, natural posture. The model is tilted slightly forward, with arms around her legs, in an attitude that is both modest and open. The gaze directed at the lens and the slight smile create a direct relationship with the viewer, giving the image a dimension that is both intimate and spontaneous. The staging remains deliberately minimalist, with a dark, uniform background that isolates the figure and highlights the body's volumes and the softness of the light. The composition favors simplicity and human presence, in keeping with the spirit of the project, which is to photograph anonymous people without artifice in order to reveal the singularity of each individual. By erasing any social or narrative context, the image invites the viewer to concentrate on the person photographed and on the universal dimension of the human body.

Expert opinion

This photograph is part of the first phase of the project Un Anonyme Nu Dans Le Salon, a seminal series in Idan Wizen's artistic approach. The Genesis collection is of particular importance, as it marks the starting point of a participatory project that today brings together several thousand portraits. Aesthetically, the work stands out for its direct, uncluttered approach to the photographic portrait. The sobriety of the visual device creates a powerful image where expression, posture and gaze are enough to convey an authentic human presence. The silver print on matte paper enhances the photographic quality and gives the image a soft texture that matches the intimate atmosphere of the scene. The limited edition of eight also contributes to the work's appeal to collectors. As a print from the project's first collection, this photograph has a historical dimension in the artist's career, and is representative of an artistic approach that questions the perception of the body and the relationship between anonymity, identity and the viewer's gaze.

About the artist

Idan Wizen is a Franco-Israeli photographer born in 1984, whose work focuses mainly on portraiture and the representation of the human body. Based in France, since the late 2000s he has been developing his artistic research around the photographic nude as a universal language for exploring identity, self-perception and the social gaze. He is best known for his long-term project Un Anonyme Nu dans le Salon, launched in 2009, in which he invites anonymous volunteers to pose nude in a simple, uncluttered photographic device. Through this participatory series, the artist seeks to go beyond traditional aesthetic standards to propose a more authentic and inclusive vision of the body, by photographing individuals of all ages, morphologies and backgrounds. In this way, participants become an integral part of the artistic process, and the photographic session is often transformed into a powerful personal experience. His work is characterized by a minimalist staging, usually set against a dark background with soft lighting that highlights the model's presence and the body's expression. Since the beginning of the project, several thousand people have taken part in this series, which today constitutes a vast human and social archive. Works from this project have been shown in various exhibitions and publications, and can be found in several private collections. Through his artistic, social and human approach, Idan Wizen develops a sensitive reflection on the relationship between the body, identity and the freedom to show oneself as we are.
