About the artwork

Created in 2009 by photographer Idan Wizen, F016 - Un Anonyme Nu Dans Le Salon / Genèse is a 30 x 20 cm silver print on matte paper, produced in an edition of eight and numbered 2/8. This photograph is part of the Genèse series, the first collection in the artistic project Un Anonyme Nu Dans Le Salon, initiated by the artist the same year. The image depicts an anonymous naked person, seated in a posture that is both natural and introspective. The model, slightly curled up, rests her head on her arm while gazing at the lens with an expression that combines gentleness and mischief. The composition is deliberately simple, set against a dark background that isolates the figure and focuses attention on the model's presence. The soft light reveals the volumes of the body and the details of the skin, while the model's attitude conveys a sense of confidence and spontaneity. True to the spirit of the project, the work seeks to erase the usual social and aesthetic markers to reveal the singularity of the individual. By eliminating the elements of context and spectacular staging, the photograph emphasizes the direct relationship between the model and the viewer's gaze, inviting reflection on the perception of the body and the authenticity of portraiture.

Expert opinion

This photograph is part of a singular artistic project that questions the representation of the body and identity through the participation of anonymous people. The Genesis series has a particular value in Idan Wizen's work as a whole, since it is the starting point for a project that has become a veritable human archive over time. Aesthetically, the work stands out for its formal simplicity and direct approach to portraiture, where light, posture and gaze are enough to create a strong presence. The silver print on matte paper reinforces the photographic quality of the image, adding a soft texture that matches the intimacy of the subject. The fact that this is a limited edition of eight also contributes to its appeal to collectors. As a work from the project's first collection, this print has a historical dimension in the artist's career, and bears witness to the origins of an artistic approach that questions aesthetic and social norms relating to the body. For a collector sensitive to contemporary photography and participatory portrait projects, this work represents a relevant and coherent testimony to Idan Wizen's approach.

About the artist

Idan Wizen is a Franco-Israeli photographer born in 1984, whose work focuses mainly on portraiture and the representation of the human body. Based in France, since the late 2000s he has been developing his artistic research around the photographic nude as a universal language for exploring identity, self-perception and the social gaze. He is best known for his long-term project Un Anonyme Nu dans le Salon, launched in 2009, in which he invites anonymous volunteers to pose nude in a simple, uncluttered photographic device. Through this participatory series, the artist seeks to go beyond traditional aesthetic standards to propose a more authentic and inclusive vision of the body, by photographing individuals of all ages, morphologies and backgrounds. In this way, participants become an integral part of the artistic process, and the photographic session is often transformed into a powerful personal experience. His work is characterized by a minimalist staging, usually set against a dark background with soft lighting that highlights the model's presence and the body's expression. Since the beginning of the project, several thousand people have taken part in this series, which today constitutes a vast human and social archive. Works from this project have been shown in various exhibitions and publications, and can be found in several private collections. Through his artistic, social and human approach, Idan Wizen develops a sensitive reflection on the relationship between the body, identity and the freedom to show oneself as we are.
