About the artwork
Like two panels in a comic strip, this double-sided work tells a story about the death of a book. While a man with a small body and a head photographed by the artist meditates in front of a book, a second man knocks on his publisher's door, taking a gun out of his violin case. Sarcastic, humorous and absurd, Dran exposes the life of many books with lyricism and lightness.
Expert opinion
With its caricature and naivety sketched out in delicate strokes, this double-sided work is characteristic of Dran's work.
About the artist
Born in Toulouse in 1979, Dran is a French multidisciplinary artist. While studying at the Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, he developed a practice tinged with humor and cynicism. In this respect, his work presents a critique of contemporary society. With a background in the urban scene and graffiti in particular, he works in a variety of media, including paint, photography, caricature and modeling clay. He held his first exhibition of paintings and drawings in 2007 in his home town. His work has also been exhibited across Europe, with shows at the Montana Gallery (Spain) in 2008 and Gallery Nosco (UK) in 2009. In 2010, Banksy recognized his work and invited him to an exhibition in London. Dran has also published books such as "Ma ville, je l'aime" and "Fabriqué en France", in which he shares some of his caricatures and his vision of the world.
