About the artwork
Like a wall on which various artists have had fun graffitiing, Kev Munday opens a window onto one of his many worlds by painting his characters on this canvas. Chimeras, comic-book characters, aerosol cans and other street-art objects, the artist paints and repaints on canvas a patchwork of elements that characterize him. The artist plays with materials and colors to create different planes, to create the sensation that the viewer is facing different layers of paint.
Expert opinion
A patchwork of the artist's characteristic characters, this work is emblematic of Kev Munday's work.
About the artist
Born in England in 1986, Kev Munday began his artistic career at the age of 16 as an urban artist. His style, marked by bright colors and bold lines, has never left him, from his first walls in the early 2000s to his canvases today. The artist creates his own colorful, utopian universe in which creatures, animals and objects mingle in the manner of Hieronymus Bosch's paintings. His work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions such as the Hayward Gallery (London, 2012) and the Royal Academy (London, 2019). He regularly produces live work at fairs such as The Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam, Fresh Art Fair Ascot and London Fashion Week. In 2019, Kev Munday collaborated with IKEA to create a coloring poster, which sold over 30,000 copies worldwide. In 2022, Kev Munday was the subject of several solo exhibitions around the world, in Seoul, London and Paris.
“I draw most of my inspiration from everyday life. I get a lot of people to look and draw, then develop them into more polished drawings for my characters.”
