About the artwork

This work features a stylized clown character, with a blank stare and a stitched smile, placed at the center of a collage saturated with circus motifs: vintage posters, roaring lions, garish typography. This contrast between the clown's supposed innocence and the latent violence of the visual environment creates an ambivalent tension, between nostalgia and unease. The background, made up of fragments of circus posters, evokes popular culture, fairs and a collective imagination that is both festive and disquieting. The character, Arsen's recurring signature, becomes an emblem of this fragmented era, where innocence seems lost in the din of the world. The work plays on absurdity, visual saturation and the anguish hidden behind bright colors.

Expert opinion

Arsen's work perfectly encapsulates his universe: a falsely naïve clown, immersed in an overloaded, carnivalesque setting, where humor masks a form of social criticism. A work that is both jubilant and disturbing, in the tradition of pop surrealism.

About the artist

Arsen is a contemporary urban artist whose style is immediately recognizable: expressive characters, often childlike in appearance, evolving in worlds saturated with pop, comic-book and mass-culture references. With his roots in street art, he combines collage techniques, digital drawing and traditional painting to create hybrid works that are playful on the surface but critical in depth. Fascinated by hijacked childhood figures - clowns, stuffed animals, superheroes - he uses them to question the failings of our contemporary society: overstimulation, loneliness, hyperconsumption and loss of bearings. His work, exhibited both in galleries and in public spaces, oscillates between raw poetry and visual shock.
