About the artwork

This painting by Bryce Delplanque features a richly decorated vase with classical, symmetrical lines and an intricately patterned surface. The vase is dominated by a vibrant pink-purple color that covers the entire object, while the black motifs create a striking contrast. The designs appear to be inspired by antique engravings, with floral details and stylized animals, probably birds. The unusual pink color suggests Bryce Delplanque's reinterpretation of a classic object. The artist plays on this juxtaposition, updating the historical object with a bold visual treatment, transforming a functional object into a work of art marked by color and style.

Expert opinion

Bryce Delplanque comes to question our expectations and prejudices about art objects and their value by hijacking the subject. Color plays a crucial role in her pictorial approach.
