About the artwork
Burlesque Avangard And Hors D'Oeuvres (180 × 120 cm) is an acrylic canvas in which Dariusz Labuzek combines human figures, narrative fragments and abstract forms, creating a scene both chaotic and poetic. His abundant style, with its interweaving of bright colors and enigmatic symbols, evokes a hybrid aesthetic between surrealism and contemporary expressionism.
Expert opinion
In this work, Labuzek offers a dense visual universe where humor, drama and surrealism are combined with virtuosity. His painting reveals great formal freedom, while questioning the psychic and social complexity of human existence.
About the artist
Born in 1963 in Zabrze, Poland, Dariusz Labuzek has lived and worked in Chicago since 1988. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, then at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he was introduced to the American art scene. His work, exhibited in the United States and Europe, explores visual narrative through free figuration, often close to art brut or symbolism. Labuzek cites Francis Bacon, Picasso and existentialist literature as his influences, and claims an intuitive style of painting in which the image springs forth before meaning.
