About the artwork

This offset lithograph depicts a white marble bust of a male and female figure in an embrace, rendered with a smooth, polished finish. The female figure, adorned with a pearl-like headpiece and strands of pearls draped across her torso, leans into the male figure, whose arm is around her shoulder. Their faces are close, suggesting an intimate moment. The bust rests on a classical pedestal decorated with floral and foliate motifs. The composition is presented against a plain white background, emphasizing the sculptural form and the interaction between the two figures. The monochromatic palette highlights the texture and contours of the simulated marble. The work explores themes of classical sculpture, romance, and contemporary aesthetics through its meticulous rendering and idealized forms.

Expert opinion

This print exists within the context of contemporary art's engagement with classical forms and pop culture iconography. The artist frequently reinterprets historical art motifs through a modern lens, often employing industrial fabrication techniques to achieve a pristine, idealized surface. The market position for works by this artist is robust, with high demand for both unique pieces and limited-edition prints. This particular print, reproducing a well-known sculptural motif, holds a steady position in the secondary market for contemporary prints, appealing to collectors interested in accessible entry points to the artist's oeuvre.

About the artist

Jeff Koons, American artist born in 1955. Lives and works in New York (USA). With a father who was an interior decorator, Jeff Koons grew up in an artistic environment and studied at the Chicago School of Fine Arts. Alongside his work as a trader, he developed his artistic practice in a kitsch style borrowed from popular culture. Following in the footsteps of Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol, the objects Jeff Koons conjures up go beyond the serial stage to become veritable icons. Inflatable Rabbit is a prime example. Celebrated and collected worldwide, Jeff Koons exhibited at the Château de Versailles (France) in 2008 and at the Fondation Beyeler (Basel, Switzerland) in 2012. A retrospective of his work was organized in 2014 at the Centre Pompidou (Paris, France).
