About the artwork
Like Daniel Arsham's crystallized and eroded objects, it's now the turn of the Pikachu character from the Pokémon franchise to pass through the artist's hands. Thanks to the collaboration between the franchise and Daniel Arsham, this pop culture character, frozen in action and immersed in a fictional world, seems to have acquired the stature of an archaeological artifact.
Expert opinion
The result of the artist's first collaboration with the company, this work is as characteristic of Nintendo's Pokémon media franchise as it is of Daniel Arsham's work.
About the artist
Born in Cleveland in 1980, Daniel Arsham is an American artist who lives and works in New York. Basing his artistic practice on a kind of fictional archaeology, he creates, crystallizes and erodes objects and silhouettes from our present. Combining the present, the future and the past, Daniel Arsham imposes an aesthetic as a timeless, cross-cultural experience. Exhibited worldwide, his work has been shown at Galerie Perrotin since 2005. His aesthetic has also been popularized by numerous collaborations, including with Moët & Chandon, Tiffany & Co and the famous Pokémon franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995.
“I never try to be too obvious. It's like the idea of an object that decomposes or recomposes: everyone chooses their point of view.”
