Bleeding Me Dry (Cash Machine)

This sculpture depicts a miniature automated teller machine (ATM) rendered in grey, with red liquid appearing to bleed from the cash dispenser slot and pooling at its base. The work symbolizes the economic impact of Brexit and the inflationary pressures that followed, evoking the feeling of "bleeding money" every time cash is withdrawn. Through this striking visual metaphor, the artist captures the growing financial anxiety experienced by many households in the United Kingdom. The ATM screen displays the words "Cash Machine" in orange. The artwork is presented alongside its original light blue packaging, decorated with red drips that echo the sculpture's bleeding effect and featuring the artist's signature eye-like logo with orbiting elements. Hand-painted and produced in a limited edition of 500, the sculpture is based on the artist's full-scale Bleeding ATM, first exhibited as part of the 2023 exhibition Death + Taxes. The exhibition examined themes of money, taxation, consumerism, and the public's relationship with economic systems, with the Bleeding ATM serving as a powerful commentary on the financial strain caused by rising living costs, inflation, and the economic uncertainty surrounding the post-Brexit period.
