About the artwork
You can't get enough of this drawing by P. Nicolas Ledoux, so impossible is it to grasp at first glance. Borrowing from the aesthetics of the comic strip, the artist has created a multitude of characters and details that swarm over the paper. Although each character has its own existence and could be the subject of a single drawing, they take on their full meaning when integrated into this joyful hubbub. Could you imagine the great Spanish master Pablo Picasso and metal singer Marilyn Manson on the same sheet of paper, just a few centimetres apart? No, surely not, but it's in these confrontations that the genius and inventiveness of P. Nicolas Ledoux lies, capable of blending seemingly opposing worlds.
Expert opinion
P. Nicolas Ledoux's artistic and pictorial production blends references to art history and contemporary culture. He constructs his drawings using numerous borrowings that he recontextualizes and decontextualizes. He plays with their meanings, forms and origins, questioning contemporary art and its ecosystem, and its relationship to art history, marketing and money.P. Nicolas Ledoux's highly diverse body of work has been shown at a number of major art exhibitions. Nicolas Ledoux has been shown at the FIAC in 2006, at the Musée de Grenoble in 2007, in the galerie du jour agnès b in 2011, and more recently at the FRAC Bretagne in 2021, as well as around the world in Geneva, Turin, Berlin, Brussels, Ankara, Singapore and Shanghai.Today, P. Nicolas Ledoux's work has taken a more conceptual direction, making this drawing a relatively rare piece whose production the artist has discontinued since 2011. It's also worth noting that this drawing has a large format, giving it a special aura.
About the artist
Born in 1967, P. Nicolas Ledoux is an artist whose work is shown in France and abroad, always faithful to his conceptual radicalism. Indeed, the artist is known for revealing or criticizing the society he likes to observe, while retaining a great openness to experimentation. Thus, playing with the status quo between artist and critic, the visible and the invisible and other conventions, P. Nicolas Ledoux invests as many techniques as he can, going so far as to make art through gesture. In 2011, he purchased the entire body of work and the name of Ludovic Chemarin, an artist who had ceased his activities in 2005, in order to appropriate and continue his work.
Alongside these activities, he is also co-editor of the magazine OpticalSound, co-director of the publishing house Artbook Magazine and associated with the graphic design studio ABM Studio. His work has been shown in Paris (Danysz gallery, Fiac 2005), Geneva, and America (New York and Los Angeles).
