About the artwork
On a deep black background, adorned with a golden applat that appears to be torn, the composition is strewn with various elements that reflect a world between "primitive" and "urban", in the words of the artist. Graffiti, schematized and expressive characters, splashes of color and words punctuate the canvas, giving us the impression of being face to face with a fragment of wall as photographed by the famous Brassaï. The bright colors and varied textures bring a raw energy to the piece, while recalling the expressionism of urban art. The influence of Jean-Michel Basquiat is also palpable in the pictorial style and the direct, vibrant use of color. The word "Now" is inscribed several times, infusing a sense of urgency. By affixing robot heads alongside faces inspired by primitive art, Skunkdog underlines the duality between past and present, and claims a "primitive and urban" style. Overall, this work is a complex exploration of the themes of technology, primitive art influence, urbanity and contemporary culture.

Defining his art as both "primitive" and "urban", this work is characteristic of Skunkdog's artistic practice.
About the artist
Born in 1968, Skunkdog, whose real name is David Negri, is a French artist living in Marseille. Although he inherited his passion for painting from his father, he began his painting career relatively late in Paris. Exhibiting his work for the first time in Provence, he soon obtained new opportunities, and took his work as far as New York. Between France and the United States, SkunkDog has developed an artistic style fusing figurative art, art brut and urban art. Working on a crude medium with only his imagination as a constraint, he nevertheless produced an exhibition in tribute to Serge Gainsbourg.
“It's the beginning of transhumanism, it's completely primitive and completely urban, and that's what we're experiencing right now.”
