About the artwork
This 45 rpm vinyl record features a center label depicting a pixelated alien figure—reminiscent of early video game graphics—on a white background. The word “ALERT” is printed in an angular, stylized font below the central image. The record is housed in a plain white sleeve, which is itself enclosed in a clear plastic protective sleeve. A white sticker affixed to the top of the sleeve displays the text “Stock, Hausen & Walkman CRASH / ALERT ALERT01” in black capital letters. The vinyl label also features text around its circumference: “> INVASION COMPLETED > 45 T. SPEED > LTD: LOW-TECH EDITION > SIDE A > > > .” This text provides contextual information regarding the edition and the artist’s overall project. The piece was produced in 1999 for the artist’s exhibition “New Player Insert Coins,” with hand-engraved inscriptions reading “ALERT O1A1” on one side and “ALERT01B1” on the other.
Expert opinion
This work occupies a unique place within the artist’s body of work, representing an early foray into collectible objects that extend beyond street installations. Its connection to the 1999 exhibition “New Player Insert Coins” places it within a formative period for the artist, preceding his widespread international recognition. The inclusion of the name “Stock, Hausen & Walkman” on the label suggests a collaborative or thematic link to electronic music culture, a common point of reference for the artist. The market for the artist’s early works—particularly those directly linked to his initial conceptual projects—is generally strong, as collectors value pieces that illustrate the development of his iconic visual language and conceptual framework.
