GUM (né en 1979) est un artiste français issu de la scène graffiti parisienne. Actif depuis le milieu des années 1990, il développe un langage visuel singulier qui puise ses origines dans l'écriture urbaine tout en s'affranchissant progressivement des codes traditionnels du graffiti. Apparu dans le paysage artistique à travers le mouvement du writing, GUM s'intéresse très tôt à la lettre, au signe et à la construction graphique. Son travail évolue progressivement vers une abstraction géométrique où les formes, les rythmes et les superpositions prennent le pas sur la lisibilité du texte. Cette évolution lui permet de développer un univers personnel situé à la frontière entre art urbain, abstraction contemporaine et recherche plastique. Son œuvre se caractérise par une grande rigueur formelle, l'utilisation de structures répétitives, de trames et de compositions dynamiques qui jouent avec l'espace, la couleur et la perception. Les influences du modernisme, du design graphique et de l'abstraction géométrique se mêlent aux héritages du graffiti new-yorkais et européen.
