À propos de l'œuvre

This composition features a vibrant,cartoon-like pink character holding a wooden sign that reads "FREE HUGS!" A speech bubble next to the character states,"I JOKE. IT'S 100$." Below this central figure, large, bold yellow letters outlined in black spell out "ALL CATS ARE BITCHES!" The entire image is rendered on a corrugated cardboard surface, which is visible around the edges and through areas where the paint is less opaque. White paint drips are present in the upper left and right corners, suggesting a spontaneous or raw application technique. The graphic elements, including the character and text, are cut out and applied to the cardboard, creating a layered,sticker-like effect. The visual language combines elements of graffiti, pop art,and illustration, utilizing bright, contrasting colors and strong outlines. The work presents a humorous and somewhat provocative statement, engaging with themes of expectation, commercialism, and irreverence.

Avis de l'expert

This work positions itself within the broader context of Street Art and Urban Art,a movement that gained significant traction in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The use of cardboard as a substrate aligns with the movement's ethos of utilizing unconventional and readily available materials, often reflecting its origins in public spaces. The graphic style, characterized by bold lines, vibrant colors, and cartoonish figures,is a common visual vocabulary within this genre, often drawing from comic books, animation, and graffiti. The market for this type of art has matured, with collectors appreciating both its aesthetic qualities and its cultural commentary. Works by artists like OPOIL,who are active within regional collectives, contribute to the diversity and accessibility of this market segment, appealing to collectors interested in contemporary urban aesthetics and direct, often humorous, messaging.
