Xavier Le Normand
Xavier Le Normand (né en 1978 en France) est un artiste verrier français installé à Ivry-sur-Seine. Formé au CERFAV (Vannes-le-Châtel), il a ensuite travaillé comme assistant d'atelier auprès de Philippe Baldwin et Monica Guggisberg avant de se lancer à son compte en tant que créateur, souffleur de verre et tailleur-graveur. En 2009, il a reçu le Prix Liliane Bettencourt pour l'Intelligence de la Main, et ses œuvres font partie de la collection du Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris.
Xavier Le Normand trained in glassblowing at the European Centre for Research and Training in Glass Arts (CERFAV) in Lorraine (Franceinfo) , going on to become a Compagnon verrier européen. He completed his formation with several nomadic years as an intern in various workshops and at CIRVA in Marseille, before joining the studio of Philippe Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg in Bastille as their dedicated assistant from 2004 to 2009, taking part in the creation of their works while beginning his own personal practice in parallel (Les Arts Décoratifs) .
His technical range, as both glassblower and cutter-engraver, brought him invitations and residencies internationally, including a "Lino Tagliapietra" fellowship at Pilchuck in the United States in 2008 (Les Arts Décoratifs) , and a teaching post at a university in Tokyo in 2009, where he was addressed as "sensei." That same year marked a major turning point: he was awarded the 2009 Prix Liliane Bettencourt pour l'Intelligence de la Main (Les Arts Décoratifs) , consolidating his position within the new generation of CERFAV-trained glass artists. This recognition was followed in 2011 by a monographic exhibition at the Musée Roybet-Fould in Courbevoie.
His work has since been shown at major French institutions, notably the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (exhibition "Mutations") and the Palais de Tokyo (exhibition "L'usage des formes") in 2015 (dnmade_verre) . Le Normand's practice is defined by a dual mastery of hot glassblowing and cold sculpting, frequently incorporating precious metals such as silver into his pieces to achieve refined internal colour effects.
