Woo Ghost

Woo Ghost is an artist based in Bordeaux, France, who has developed an artistic practice at the intersection of Figuration Libre and calligraphy. His work is characterized by an instinctive approach in which symbols unfold without fixed meaning, blending the raw energy of graffiti with the fluidity of calligraphic forms. Influenced from a young age by artists such as Keith Haring and Niki de Saint Phalle, Woo Ghost incorporates naive forms, icons, and minimalist graphic representations into his compositions. He explores the synthesis of forms into single lines, drawing inspiration from everyday observations translated into curved or angular shapes. The artist’s affinity for the elegance of Eastern alphabets is evident throughout his body of work. The gesture itself—its repetition, fluidity, and rhythm—can serve as a form of writing in its own right or as a vehicle for a narrative, a place, or a memory. This convergence of writing and drawing results in open-ended works that invite individual interpretation. His creations feature glyphs influenced by pre-Columbian, primitive, and Eastern cultures, alongside animal figures, botanical elements, references to pop culture, and polytheistic symbols, forming a distinct visual vocabulary that he calls “NÉOGLYPHES”.
