Tom Wesselmann

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1931, Tom Wesselmann is a central figure in the American Pop Art movement. After studying psychology at the University of Cincinnati, he turned to art at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, then at the Cooper Union in New York. Although initially influenced by Abstract Expressionism, he soon adopted a more graphic style, drawing inspiration from popular culture and everyday objects. His most famous works, such as "The Great American Nude", explore the representation of the female figure, often reduced to a stylized, objectified form. His work has been widely exhibited (Denver Art Museum, Denver, 2014; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, 2024) and can be found in prestigious collections such as MoMA (New York), the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis) and the Musée d'Art Moderne (Paris).
