Léon Zack

Léon Zack (1892 - 1980) was a naturalized French Russian painter and sculptor associated with lyrical abstraction. He studied art in Moscow before moving to Paris in 1923. After a figurative period influenced by Symbolism, he gradually moved towards abstraction in the 1940s, developing a style marked by fluid forms and delicate colors. Zack's painting is characterized by a profound spirituality, combining evanescent forms with an often subtle, almost ethereal palette. His works, imbued with mysticism, explore light and matter, translating a dialogue between the visible and the invisible. Léon Zack is renowned for his contribution to sacred art, notably through his stained-glass windows and frescoes for churches in France. In 1970, a retrospective of his work was organized at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, highlighting the importance of his work on abstraction.
