Jim Dine

Born in Cincinnati (Ohio, USA) in 1935, Jim Dine is an American artist who specializes in painting, performance, drawing, poetry, printmaking, book design, sculpture and photography. He has been associated with many artistic movements, including neo-dada with its use of found objects, abstract expressionism and pop art. What sets him apart from his contemporaries is his use of recurring symbols such as hearts and tools to explore personal and universal themes, including identity, memory and affection. Known the world over, Jim Dine has been the subject of over 300 exhibitions and is represented in major collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), the Musée National d'Art Moderne and the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Tate Gallery (London) and the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC).
