Inez & Vinoodh (Inez Van Lamsweerde, Vinoodh Matadin)

Formed in 1986, following the meeting of Inez van Lamsweede (b. 1963) and Vinoodh Matadin (b. 1961) at an art school in Amsterdam, Inez & Vinoodh are a pair of world-renowned fashion and portrait photographers. Pioneers of an approach to photography that plays on the porosity between art and fashion since 1990, the duo immediately set themselves apart from other photographers of the time. Indeed, each photograph is imbued with the same creative intelligence, conveying narratives rich in meaning. From shooting to retouching, Inez and Vinoodh never stop searching for ways to express the truth of their subject and the emotions attached to it. The result of this research is a photograph that we are called upon to look at as well as feel, in order to identify the artists' intentions. With this need for experimentation, the couple have forged a genuine visual identity that has earned them worldwide success with major magazines such as Vogue and The New York Times Magazine, collaborations with major brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Valentino, and museum exhibitions, notably at the Whitney Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, all of which have helped them to emerge victorious from their game with art and fashion.
