Ibrahim Ballo

Born in 1986 in Bamako, Ibrahim Ballo is a Malian artist who graduated in Plastic Arts in 2012 from the Institut National des Arts du Mali and has held a Master's degree from the Balla Fasseke Kouyaté Multimedia Arts and Crafts Conservatory in Mali since 2017. The artist systematically echoes the world of weavers in which he grew up by adding weaving thread to his paintings. The artist's approach stems from a desire to revalorize a traditional know-how erased by the modern, colonizing textile industry. Imabriham Ballo was awarded the Sahm workshop prize at the Rencontre internationale de l'Art Contemporain in 2017, and his work has been exhibited extensively in Africa and Paris, notably by Galerie Chauvy as part of the AKAA (Also Known as Africa) fair in 2019.
