Georges Wolinski

Born in Tunis in 1934, Georges Wolinski is a French cartoonist, scriptwriter and comic strip artist, known for his corrosive humor, political commitment and joyful eroticism. He began publishing his first cartoons in Hara-Kiri in the late 1950s, before becoming a key figure in the French satirical press, collaborating with a number of newspapers including Charlie Hebdo, L'Humanité and Libération. Wolinski is famous for his politically and sexually engaged drawings. He combines provocation, tenderness and social criticism, adopting a simple, direct graphic style. He marked more than 50 years of press cartooning in France before becoming one of the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack in 2015.
