Françoise Pétrovitch

Born in 1964 in Chambéry, Françoise Pétrovitch is today a major figure in French contemporary art. Since 1990, she has been practicing a wide variety of techniques (ceramics, glass, wash, printmaking, painting, etc.), paying particular attention to drawing. Reserve is also very much a part of her practice. A game is played between the painted and the unpainted, the full and the empty, the moving and the stable, the structured and the structured. Figures are constructed by the emptiness that the artist allows to appear or assumes. Through these games, the artist is able to invite us into a universe whose perpetual tensions are revealed with gentleness, through beings of tormented innocence that rarely leave us indifferent. His importance in the contemporary art world is expressed through a large number of solo exhibitions, both in France and abroad, as well as articles and broadcasts. Her works are included in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, the MAC Val, the Leclerc and Emerige foundations and other museum collections abroad (Hong Kong, Brussels, Manila...). In 2015, Françoise Pétrovitch was selected to take part in the fourth edition of "Women to Watch" by the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington.
