Florence Reymond

Florence Reymond, born in Lyon in 1971, is a French artist whose main medium is painting. Although her practice has diversified since graduating from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Etienne in 1994, questions about childhood and bodies remain central to her concerns. Borrowing her motifs from art history, popular culture and personal archives, Florence Reymond composes in dialogue with a memory she has lost. As a result, her works can appear incoherent, even strange: each element is juxtaposed, without proposing a clear narrative language. However, by playing on the imagination and memory of each individual, the painter has succeeded in creating a universe which, despite its singularity, invites anyone to enter. Her work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions in France and, on occasion, abroad, and in 2010 she was awarded the Prix Novembre in Vitry, following her 2007 prize at the Biennale d'Issy.
