Daniel Gastaud

Born in 1958 in Clermont-Ferrand, Daniel Gastaud lives and works in France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and began painting in 1976. He soon began exhibiting his work, and until 1978 held 41 group and private exhibitions. In 1978, he temporarily stopped painting to devote himself to promoting other artists, and opened the Galerie Gastaud in Clermont-Ferrand. He organizes major exhibitions (Picasso, Pignon, Combas, etc.), helping to promote contemporary art in Auvergne. In 1992, he opened a new gallery, this time in Paris. He then turned to publishing, becoming editor of Contemporary Art books. In 1993, he returned to painting and exhibiting. His style is a mixture of Pop art, conceptualization and other techniques that make his work heterogeneous. In particular, he works with a technique that involves filling a Plexiglas frame with tinted feathers.
