Boris Tellegen

Born in Amsterdam in 1968, Boris Tellegen began studying industrial design at the Technical University of Delft in 1988. He began his career in 1980 as a graffiti artist, becoming one of Europe's pioneers of street art: his recognizable graffiti is imbued with geometric forms. He became known in the world of urban art under the pseudonym Delta. Architecture plays a central role in his artistic approach, as do sculpture and design. In 2014, in collaboration with the architectural firm Heren 5, he designed the façade of the Huis Van Hendrik residential complex in Haarlem. In 2012 he was exhibited at the Ron Mandos gallery in Amsterdam. In 2017, Brussels' MIMA devoted its first retrospective to him, entitled A Friendly Takeover. The following year, to mark the centenary of the De Stijl movement, Tellegen carried out an ambitious public art project: ten 6.70-meter-high monumental sculptures were installed between Utrecht and Amersfoort, underlining the link between Gerrit Rietveld and Piet Mondrian. He has carried out numerous commissions for public spaces, with sculptures exhibited in Amsterdam in 2015 and Enschede in 2011. Boris Tellegen is internationally recognized for his multidisciplinary practice combining graffiti, sculpture, architecture and installation: all his creations explore the links between forms, volumes and spaces. Today, he works mainly with industrial materials such as metal, concrete and wood.
