Alex Yanes
Alex Yanes is a contemporary American artist born in Miami, Florida, in 1977. He established his full-time artistic practice in 2006, drawing significant inspiration from his Cuban heritage, his Miami upbringing, and subcultures such as skateboarding, hip-hop, tattoo, and graffiti art. Yanes's creative development began early, winning his first art contest at age six and learning woodworking skills from his father and grandfather, which he later integrated into his artistic process. His work is characterized by vibrant colors and a distinctive layered, three-dimensional approach, often incorporating wood, PVC, acrylic, resin, and enamel. Yanes has exhibited his work in galleries and museums across various cities including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, Philadelphia, London, Paris, Berlin, Australia, and Japan. He has also engaged in collaborations with numerous brands such as Disney, Nike, Red Bull, Virgin, Spotify, Vans, Kidrobot, and Coca-Cola, and his art is included in the permanent collections of institutions like the Long Beach Museum of Art and the City of Miami Public Art.
