Adel Abdessemed
Adel Abdessemed (born 1971 in Constantine, Algeria) is a Franco-Algerian artist living and working in Paris. After interrupted studies in Algeria following the assassination of his school director in 1994, he continued his training in Lyon then Paris. His work, spanning drawing, video, sculpture, performance and installation, addresses contemporary violence through a radical, direct visual language. He joined David Zwirner gallery in 2008, with a first solo exhibition in the United States in 2009. In 2012, the Centre Pompidou devoted a major retrospective to him. His works are held in collections including the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Centre Pompidou, the Pinault Collection and the Louis Vuitton collection.
