About the artist

Born in 1949, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is a French fashion designer and artist. He began his career as a designer working alongside his mother in 1968. His creations quickly won acclaim and he became a household name. From the 70s to the 90s, he became artistic director for major fashion houses such as Max Mara. In the 80s, he didn't hesitate to insert artistic references into his clothes, weaving them like paintings. His many collaborations include Miquel Barceló, Ben and Robert Combas. Now internationally recognized for his creations as well as his artistic practice, he is exhibited all over the world. In 2009, he won the Paradise Row Gallery in London, in 2015, he created a fresco for Orly airport in Paris, and in 2018, he created a monumental work for the Biennale des antiquaires de Paris at the Grand Palais.
