About the artwork

A stylized portrait of a female figure is presented in this three-color silkscreen print. The composition features a profile view of a head and upper torso, rendered with simplified forms and a limited color palette. The face is depicted in a light brown tone, with minimal detail for the nose and lips, while the eyes are left undefined, contributing to an anonymous quality. The hair is rendered in a dark blue-black, with stark white highlights suggesting texture and volume. The background is a solid medium blue, creating a clear contrast with the figure. A thin white outline separates the figure from the background and defines the edges of the different color blocks within the portrait. The overall aesthetic is graphic and flat, emphasizing shape and color over realistic representation.

Expert opinion

This work aligns with a contemporary trend in figurative art that emphasizes graphic simplification and bold color blocking, drawing parallels to Pop Art aesthetics and modern illustration. The artist's use of silkscreen printing, a technique historically associated with Pop Art and mass production, further situates this piece within a lineage of artists exploring commercial imagery and graphic design within fine art. The market for contemporary prints by artists like Oliver benefits from their accessibility and the ability to reach a broader collector base, making such editions attractive entry points into collecting. The limited edition size contributes to its collectibility, while the clean, modern aesthetic appeals to current interior design trends.

About the artist

Born in 1990, Adriana Olivier is a Spanish artist who, initially a photographer, turned to acrylic on canvas or wood, as well as sculpture. Specializing in portraits of faceless, flat men and women with pared-down colors and predominantly black outlines, her artistic practice is inspired by photographs and, above all, films from the 50s and 60s. The absence of faces on these neo-pop characters allows her to emphasize their universality and lack of individuality, interchangeable with our own emotions. His work has been shown around the world, including in Montreal in 2018 (Duran Mashaal Gallery), Taiwan in 2020 (Dopeness Art Lab) and London in 2021 (Moosey Art).
